Almost Perfect

The only spark in the current season for Inter is the coronation of Intercontinental Cup in Abu Dhabi. The last of the six possible trophies to add to the 2009-2010 season has a happy ending. A 5 out of 6 trophies by the nerazzurri deserves a standing ovation. President Massimo Moratti would still be sulking on the only missed title of the season- The UEFA Super Cup lost 2-0 to Atletico Madrid.

Anyway the positive aspect is more than encouragiong since finally the "real" Inter squad with all the players back in form showed why all clubs feared this team so much. The Intercontinental cup 2010 has a few surprises in the semifinals itself. The regular finals with a Euro-SouthAmerican clash did not repeat itself. The surely predicted finals against the Internzionale of Milan and Internacional of Brazil vanished after underdogs TP Mazembe from Congo stormed to the finals beating Internacional 2-0. Inter Milan was too well prepared for the brave Koreans, Seognam. In fact apart from a few incidents, inter dominated winning 2-0.

The finals seemed unpredictable since on one hand the nerazzurri were strong favorites speaking of the technical capacity. But since the ball is round, both teams with 11 players with just 90 minutes to play, having the heart and spirit of a team like Mazembe could have a thought to finish more than just second.

With not even a minute from the whistle, Wesley Sneijder yet again suffered an injury and Benitez was forced to make the first sub. Fans seemed already disheartened when in the range of another minute a perfect exchange between Samuel Etò and Goran Pandev left the Macedonian striker with just the keeper to beat. Pandev made no mistake and placed the ball perfectly in the corner of the net. The Abu Dhabi Stadium came to life. Inter began to show their magical touches with short passes and change of play that gave the croud a great performance. The Africans seemed stuck in an Italian cobweb, with a great heart but simply helpless infront of the nerazzurri. Etò left his mark with a beautiful shot from distance.

The only stain was the performance of Argntinian Diego Milito who missed easy chances to seal the result. In the second half Mazembe put in their final efforts and came close to scoring with stingin crosses from the right flank. Inter suffered but defended well and the young substitute Biabiany put in the third goal of the game, 5 minutes from the final whistle.

President Moratti was all smiles and couldn't help but reach straight to the ground to join the celebrations. Whether this season things could have been different or not, this team deserves everyone of these applauses. Its not their problem if the south American teams didn't make it, Inter played their game and take home their fifth title of the season!
